Bangladesh, Sept. 7 -- Bangladesh has 191 million active mobile phone SIMs, Telecoms Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam says.

The minister shared the figures at an event at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka on Monday, a ministry media statement said.

The event marked the opening of the 37th meeting of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity Wireless Group.

He said, "There are more than 49,000 4G sites, around 46,000 towers and 173,000 kilometres of fibre-optic network in the country."

The government's main goal is not only expanding connectivity but ensuring quality, affordability, reliability and meaningful connectivity, he said.
