Dhaka, May 25 -- At least 15 people were killed after a rod-laden truck carrying passengers overturned on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Kalihati upazila of Tangail early Monday.

The victims were travelling towards northern districts for Eid when the accident occurred in the Saratail Southpara area around 4:00 am, according to the fire service.

The truck reportedly lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch before overturning, leaving 15 people dead and six others injured.

The injured were rescued and taken to Tangail District Hospital, while police and fire service personnel continued rescue operations at the scene.
