India, March 1 -- The daughter-in-law and son-in-law of Iran's Supreme Leader were killed in recent United States and Israeli strikes on Iranian territory, according to a senior Tehran municipal official, marking what could become one of the most consequential escalations in the long-simmering confrontation between Tehran, Washington and Tel Aviv.

Meysam Mozaffar, a member of the Tehran City Council, said Saturday that the relatives of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been killed in the strikes. The statement, reported by the Jamaran news agency, has not yet been formally confirmed or denied by the Office of the Supreme Leader.
