Ukraine's 35th anniversary of independence from the Soviet Union drew a larger contingent of European leaders than any previous wartime commemoration. European Council President Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Estonian President Alar Karis, and Burnham all arrived in Kyiv on Sunday as the EU confirmed €6.1 billion in additional defense assistance for the rest of 2026 and a broader procurement framework totalling €16 billion in approved defense spending plans.
