India, April 24 -- When Donald Trump declared that his Navy Secretary John Phelan had "resigned himself," the statement suggested routine transition. But inside the Pentagon, the reality was far more disruptive, and far more revealing.

According to Reuters reporting that he was "fired", Phelan's departure was not a voluntary exit but part of a widening crisis in US military leadership.
