In the opening of 2018's God of War, her funeral pyre had already burned to cold ash before the player took a single step, her remains scattered across mountain peaks as the inciting act that set the entire Norse saga in motion. For three games and eight years, she remained the most consequential unseen character in the franchise, her life known only through memories and the profound consequences of her choices. Santa Monica Studio announced at San Diego Comic-Con that the next God of War will finally let players inhabit that life.
