India, March 3 -- The Israel Defense Forces announced early Monday that it had killed a senior commander of Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Beirut, marking what analysts describe as a dangerous expansion of a conflict that began in Gaza and is increasingly spilling across borders.

According to a statement published on the military's Telegram channel, Israeli forces carried out an overnight strike in the Beirut area, targeting and eliminating Abu Hamza Rami, identified as the commander of the Lebanese branch of Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

"Overnight, the IDF struck in the Beirut area and eliminated Abu Hamza Rami, the commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist organization in the Lebanon sector," the statement read.
