AMD Commits $5 Billion to Anthropic in AI Chip Partnership Targeting 2 Gigawatts
SANTA CLARA, July 22 -- Advanced Micro Devices committed up to $5 billion in a strategic equity investment in Anthropic on Tuesday, deepening a partnership that will see the artificial intelligence company deploy as much as 2 gigawatts of AMD's latest Instinct MI450 series processors, positioning the chipmaker as the most visible challenger to Nvidia's dominance in AI hardware.
The announcement, made jointly by both companies, covers a multi-year engineering collaboration to optimize Anthropic's Claude models for AMD hardware and accelerate development of the ROCm software stack.
