New Delhi, July 31 -- WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - Abdul Carter had 2.5 sacks and a pass deflection in Day 2 of New York Giants training camp Thursday, and what made the performance worth noting was not the statistic but the opponent.

His best work came against Andrew Thomas, the Giants' left tackle who has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons and is the kind of blocker who makes pass-rushers look ordinary. Carter did not look ordinary. He won with first-step speed on one rep, split Thomas' inside shoulder on a second, and converted a third rush into a mock sack that the sideline accepted without argument.
