Tanzania, Sept. 2 -- Dar es Salaam. Meta's decision to introduce charges for certain business messages on WhatsApp has raised concerns among Tanzanian businesses, although technology experts say the impact will largely depend on how companies use the platform.

The pricing update, scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026, will not apply to every business using WhatsApp Business.

Instead, the changes will affect businesses using the WhatsApp Business Platform/API for customer communication.

Speaking to The Citizen, Founder of Ghala and a Meta Business Partner, Kalebu Gwalugano, said the charges would apply to service messages sent through the platform, including replies made within the 24-hour customer service window.
