Tanzania, Aug. 16 -- Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to officially inaugurate the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), with an installed capacity of 2,115 megawatts, on August 22, 2026, at the project site in Rufiji, Coast Region.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, August 15, 2026, Energy Minister Deogratius Ndejembi said the inauguration would be attended by government leaders, domestic and international guests, members of the public and development stakeholders.

He said the event would mark a historic milestone in Tanzania's efforts to establish a reliable energy system while supporting production, investment and economic growth.
