Tanzania, Sept. 1 -- Dar/Tanga. The death of Field Force Unit (FFU) officer Corporal Mwita Mrumbe (H.1796) has sparked mystery after conflicting reports emerged, with Tanga Regional Police confirming he died whilst in custody.

Corporal Mrumbe was buried on Monday afternoon, August 31, 2026, at Mwanagati Cemetery in Ilala, Dar es Salaam, four days after dying inside Tanga District Police Station.

According to a statement released by the Tanga Regional Police Commander, Mr Mrumbe died on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 7:03 pm inside a station cell.

The statement said that before his death, Mr Mrumbe was being detained alongside six fellow officers of various ranks over criminal allegations.
