Tanzania, April 27 -- Dar es Salaam. The iconic Benjamin Mkapa Stadium has been officially closed for six months to pave the way for major renovations ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), which Tanzania will co-host starting in June.

The decision marks a significant step in the country's preparations for the continental showpiece, as authorities aim to ensure the facility meets the required international standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
