Tanzania, Sept. 3 -- Dodoma. Migration can be a major driver of Tanzania's economic growth if it is properly managed, with governments urged to protect migrants from exploitation while addressing the impact of migration on host communities.

International Organization for Migration (IOM) Director General Amy Pope said evidence from around the world showed that migration contributed to economic growth, but warned that poor management could create social and economic pressures in host communities.

In an exclusive interview with The Citizen on the sidelines of her visit to Tanzania, Ms Pope said migration should no longer be treated as the responsibility of a single government ministry.
