Manqoba, Barker turn Mainland Premiership into two-horse battle
Tanzania, Sept. 1 -- Dar es Salaam. The early stages of the 2026/2027 Mainland Premier League are beginning to look like a contest of coaching philosophies, with three of the country's leading clubs being shaped by experienced coaches from Southern and Central Africa.
At the front of the race are Young Africans' Manqoba Mngqithi and Simba's Steve Barker, both South Africans who have made perfect starts to the league season. Behind them is Azam FC's Florent Ibenge, the experienced Congolese coach whose side has also remained unbeaten but has already dropped four points.
