El Nino fears rise among flood prone communities in Tanzania
Tanzania, Sept. 11 -- Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam and Upcountry. With about 20 days left before the onset of rains forecast to be associated with El Nino, the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) says the threat remains high, while residents in flood-prone areas say their fears are growing because they have nowhere safe to relocate.
TMA says the rains are expected to begin in the last week of September in areas around Lake Victoria, including Kagera, Geita, Mwanza, Shinyanga and Mara.
