Dar es Salaam litterbugs face hefty fines and jail under 2024 bye-laws
Tanzania, Sept. 20 -- Dar es Salaam. Individuals caught dropping a sweet wrapper or a banana peel in Dar es Salaam face fines ranging from Sh300,000 to Sh1 million, a prison sentence of 12 to 24 months, or both, under the 2024 Sanitation and Environment Bye-Law.
The strict enforcement drive follows growing calls from stakeholders for councils to enforce established legislation rather than relying solely on periodic cleanliness campaigns.
