Tanzania, Aug. 14 -- Dar es Salaam. The 2026/27 Mainland Tanzania Premier League season kicks off today, with three matches scheduled as 16 clubs begin their quest for domestic honours.

Defending champions Young Africans (Yanga) enter the new campaign on a high after retaining the Community Shield, beating traditional rivals Simba 1-0 at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar on Wednesday.

Zambian attacker Albert Kangwanda Jr's 31st-minute header settled the derby, giving Yanga an early psychological boost over their biggest rivals ahead of the new league season.
