India, June 27 -- Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra have stepped down from their positions amid the ongoing controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in donations received at the Ayodhya Ram Temple. According to reports, both leaders resigned on "moral grounds" as the probe into the alleged misappropriation of donations continues.

The resignations come days after an FIR was registered in connection with the alleged embezzlement of temple donations and valuables. Eight individuals named in the case have already been arrested, and the investigation is being carried out on the basis of a preliminary report submitted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
