New Delhi, June 9 -- State-run oil and gas producer Oil India Limited has rolled out a large-scale digital wellhead monitoring system developed by IT services firm Kellton, marking a significant step in its efforts to modernise upstream operations through industrial IoT, cloud infrastructure and AI-driven analytics.

The deployment, powered by Kellton's proprietary Optima Digital Oilfield Platform, brings real-time production data from 77 wells spread across 46 production sites onto a unified digital monitoring environment. The project, which was implemented in six months, stems from a contract valued at about $2.5 million awarded to Kellton in December 2024.

The initiative was formally launched under the leadership of Oil India Chairman and Managing Director Dr Ranjit Rath and is expected to enhance operational visibility and decision-making across the company's field assets.

According to the companies, the deployment integrates 482 field devices, including 390 wired and wireless sensors and gauges, along with telemetry gateways and solar-powered infrastructure. The system combines edge computing capabilities with cloud-based monitoring to provide real-time production intelligence. The broader technology stack includes field instrumentation from Emerson and cloud services from AWS.

The project is part of a broader digital transformation push by Oil India, India's second-largest national oil and gas producer. Beyond real-time monitoring, the Optima platform is designed to support advanced capabilities such as AI-driven production analytics, predictive maintenance, workflow automation, asset lifecycle management and digital twin environments.

Oil India said the platform has improved visibility across field operations and created a scalable foundation for future optimisation initiatives. The company added that enhanced access to production data is expected to support faster and more informed operational decisions.

For Kellton, the deployment strengthens its presence in the energy technology segment at a time when oil and gas companies are increasingly investing in digital oilfield technologies to improve efficiency and reduce operational risks.

"Designed specifically for upstream oil and gas environments, Optima enables operators to unify field data, monitor production assets in real time, automate operational workflows, and generate predictive production insights through AI-driven analytics," said Ramana Palisetti, Global Director, Energy Business Unit at Kellton.

The company said the platform combines edge intelligence, cloud-native scalability and centralised operational visibility to help energy companies improve production efficiency and accelerate decision-making.

Kellton's Optima platform has previously been deployed across energy operations in India, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Iraq, Peru and Ecuador, among other markets. The company has been expanding its portfolio of AI-led enterprise transformation projects across industries.
