New Delhi, Sept. 16 -- IBM has elevated Harish Bharti to chief technology officer (CTO), Asia Pacific, for IBM Consulting, expanding his technology leadership mandate across enterprises and banks in the region.
Bharti announced the appointment in a recent professional update, saying his focus would be on helping organisations address complex technology challenges, scale artificial intelligence initiatives and build solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes.
"APAC is a genuinely exciting place to be doing this work," Bharti said, highlighting how banks and enterprises in the region are moving beyond AI adoption to rethink how technology can operate at scale. He also identified building agentic AI systems that can perform reliably in production, rather than only in demonstrations, as a key priority.
The elevation builds on Bharti's long tenure at IBM, where he has held senior technical and architecture roles. He has served as an IBM Distinguished Engineer and Master Inventor, with experience spanning enterprise architecture, cloud transformation, application modernisation and technology innovation.
Before taking on the regional CTO role, Bharti was responsible for technology leadership in IBM Consulting's core systems modernisation business. His earlier positions included chief architect at the Global Solutioning Center of Excellence and lead architect for the Application Innovation Services Cloud programme.
His technical expertise covers cloud-native architecture, data architecture and the design of technology solutions for complex enterprise environments. Red Hat has previously described Bharti as an IBM Distinguished Engineer with more than 22 years of experience in designing business solutions across multiple technologies.
Bharti's work as an IBM Master Inventor has included patents related to cloud computing, blockchain, cognitive computing, microservices, mobility, digital integration and the Internet of Things. In a recent update, he said his patent portfolio had reached 129 filed patents, including 91 granted patents. His more recent work includes an invention focused on AI-driven insights for edge computing.
Public patent records also list his involvement in innovations covering multi-cloud application optimisation, event processing, observability, edge computing and AI-related technologies.
Bharti began his career as a software engineer at LTI, formerly Larsen & Toubro Infotech, and later worked as a service-oriented architecture (SOA) architect at Walmart. He holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and an MBA in operations.
His expanded mandate comes as enterprises across Asia Pacific work to integrate AI into existing technology environments while modernising legacy systems and strengthening their cloud capabilities. For consulting organisations, this shift is increasing the focus on moving AI initiatives from experimentation to reliable, scalable deployment.
In his new role, Bharti will lead IBM Consulting's technology agenda across the region, with an emphasis on enterprise-scale transformation, AI adoption and agentic systems that can deliver dependable results in production environments.
