New Delhi, Sept. 17 -- Axis Bank has gone live with Cognizant's application management services under a five-year agreement, as the private sector lender seeks to improve IT operations through automation, standardised processes and stronger delivery governance.

The programme, called AMS 2.0, is being led by Axis Bank as part of its broader technology transformation and is designed to standardise application support, strengthen delivery governance and expand the use of automation across IT operations.

Under the agreement, Cognizant will provide application management services across key areas including branch and operations, cards, corporate banking and treasury, core platforms and payments, finance and accounting, retail and wholesale banking, and data platforms and integration, the companies said on Thursday.

The initiative is intended to create a more scalable and resilient IT operating model as the bank expands its technology environment. It will use automation-led processes to improve operational consistency, productivity and service reliability, while maintaining governance and compliance controls.

"The implementation of AMS 2.0 is part of Axis Bank's efforts to build a more resilient, scalable, and automation enabled operations model," said Avinash Raghavendra, group head, Information Technology & Retail Operations, Axis Bank.

Cognizant said its role will focus on disciplined application management, governance-led operations and the responsible use of automation to improve operational stability and efficiency.

The partnership covers a complex application environment spanning multiple banking functions, making application management a key component of the bank's technology operating model.

The move reflects a broader shift among financial institutions towards automation-led IT operations, as banks seek to manage increasingly complex application estates while improving reliability, productivity and cost efficiency.

Axis Bank had 6,295 domestic branches and 12,564 ATMs and cash recyclers as of 30 June 2026, according to the company.
