Sri Lanka, Aug. 17 -- The long-running backlog of vehicle number plates at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) is to be cleared soon, following the Cabinet-Appointed Procurement Committee's review of supplier bids, Commissioner General Kamal Amarasinghe told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

The Committee formally opened the bids on Friday, with the Ministry of Transport expected to approve the successful supplier shortly. After it is finalised, the DMT will issue official, tamper proof number plates to all vehicles within two to three months.
