Srilanka, Oct. 19 -- The authorities have cleared a landslide blocked road in the Riverston area of the Matale district following three days of continuous heavy rainfall, said the Director of the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), Dr. H.A.G. Jayathissa yesterday.

Dr. Jayathissa said the Road Development Authority cleared debris from the Riverston road. She said that smaller landslides, triggered by cutting failures, had also occurred in Kalutara, Kegalle, and the Kandy districts due to persistent showers.

Senior NBRO scientist Wasantha Senadeera said early landslide warnings have been issued for ten districts: Badulla, Galle, Gampaha, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matale, Moneragala, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura.
