Sri Lanka, May 17 -- The death of Rathugala indigenous leader Danigala Mahabandalage Sudavannila Atthan last week marked the end of an important chapter in the history of one of Sri Lanka's oldest indigenous communities. Yet, in the quiet moments that followed his passing, another story emerged. It was not about politics, ceremony or tradition alone. It was about humanity.

Sudavannila Atthan, 62, who had led the Rathugala indigenous community since 2005, died on May 7 while receiving treatment at the Welisara Chest Hospital after a prolonged illness.
