Solar shutdown urged as grid faces surge
Sri Lanka, May 31 -- Rooftop solar users have been asked to voluntarily switch off their systems today (31) between 8.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. as the authorities scramble to stabilise the national electricity grid after an unexpected surge in solar generation and a sharp fall in weekend demand triggered widespread disruptions yesterday.
This request was made by the National System Operator (Pvt.) Ltd, which said the grid experienced abnormal operating conditions yesterday (30), forcing controlled power cuts across multiple regions. The disruption left over 100 locations without electricity during the early hours, with supply restored islandwide by around 2.30 p.m.
