SriLanka, April 26 -- General Secretary of the Free Trade Zones and General Services Employees Union, Anton Marcus told the Sunday Observer that many smaller garment manufacturers are struggling to survive due to rising costs and global pressures.
"At present, except for the 10 main companies, all the others in the garment sector are in a huge crisis," he said.
Marcus said that large-scale garment companies are less affected because they operate internationally. These firms often have production facilities in several countries. If they lose orders in Sri Lanka, they can shift their operations elsewhere.
"They are strong entrepreneurs internationally," he said. "There is no major issue for them."
