Srilanka, July 12 -- The Prison Officers' Collective has written to the Commissioner General of Prisons, requesting compensation of Rs. 2 million each for the families of the eight prison officers who were killed during the recent Negombo prison riots.

The Collective also called for the pensions of the deceased officers to be expedited and granted to their families, while requesting a payment of Rs. 200,000 each for prison officers injured in the incident and currently receiving treatment.

While a compensation payment of Rs. 500,000 each for the officers who died in the incident was recently announced, the Prison Officers' Collective said the amount was unacceptable, expressing disappointment over the decision. The Collective said the ...
