Power tariff hike hits only 4.06 percent households
Sri Lanka, May 10 -- Only 4.06 percent of Sri Lanka's electricity consumers will be affected by the latest electricity tariff increase approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), with the revision targeting households that use over 180 units of electricity per month.
The PUCSL yesterday approved an 18 percent tariff increase effective from midnight today (10), impacting around 321,376 households of the country's 7.9 million electricity consumers.
According to PUCSL data, Sri Lanka has 7,913,820 electricity consumers, of which 6,751,133 are domestic users. Households consuming above 180 units per month account for 4.06 percent of the total consumer base.
