Srilanka, Aug. 16 -- The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) has compiled a list of 23,352 victims of enforced disappearances, of whom 31 have been traced, OMP Chairperson Attorney-at-Law Mahesh Katulanda said.

The Chairperson made this revelation at a press conference held recently ahead of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances.

Katulanda said that of the 31 persons traced, two had died of natural causes.

However, international agencies, including Amnesty International, estimate that the number of enforced disappearances in Sri Lanka since the late 1980s could range from 60,000 to 100,000, making Sri Lanka one of the countries with the highest numbers of enforced disappearances in the world.
