Narcotics law shake-up soon
Sri Lanka, May 17 -- The Government will revise Sri Lanka's narcotics laws amid concerns that existing bail provisions introduced under the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Act No. 41 of 2022 are contributing to prolonged remand detention and delays in the judicial process.
Minister of Justice and National Integration, Harshana Nanayakkara told the Sunday Observer that plans are under way to restructure the legal thresholds that determine bail jurisdiction in drug-related cases, adding that the current system has created procedural bottlenecks.
