Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- National People's Power (NPP) MP Sugath Wasantha de Silva has been awarded the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) New Parliamentarian Award 2026 in recognition of his work in parliamentary affairs, inclusive governance, human rights and democratic participation.

The award was presented on Thursday (17) at the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. It recognises parliamentarians who have demonstrated leadership and made an impact in public representation in their first term.

De Silva was nominated for the award following a proposal submitted by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) - Sri Lanka to the CPA Headquarters Secretariat in London on July 8.
