Major funding push for health, education and transport
Sri Lanka, Oct. 11 -- The National People's Power (NPP) Government is set to present its third consecutive full Budget to Parliament for the Second Reading on November 12 with Rs. 856.853 billion, the highest amount of funds being allocated to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
According to the Appropriation Bill for 2027, presented to Parliament on October 7 by Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha, the Government has proposed expenditure of nearly Rs.5 trillion (Rs. 4,992.77 billion) for the 2027 Financial Year (FY). Of the total allocation, Rs.3,240.24 billion is earmarked for Recurrent Expenditure, while Rs.1,752.53 billion is allocated for Capital Expenditure.
