Kepapilavu land protest enters day 18
Srilanka, July 12 -- Residents of Kepapilavu in the Karaithuraipattu Divisional Secretariat Division of Mullaitivu District continued their protest for the 18th consecutive day yesterday, demanding the release of ancestral lands that have remained under military control since the end of the conflict in 2009.
The protesters said that 55 families continue to be denied access to 159.5 acres of land, including 59.5 acres of residential land and 100 acres of agricultural land. They also called for the return of community properties, including a school, temple, church and common hall, which they said remain under military control.
