Srilanka, Sept. 6 -- Coastal Conservation authorities, in a major enforcement move, will demolish and remove all identified unauthorised structures, including hotels, along the coastal stretch from Bambalapitiya to Dehiwala, starting September 10.

This will follow a grace period given by the Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management to the owners to evacuate such structures.

Many unauthorised buildings and businesses have been operating in this highly sensitive and tourist area for a long time, allegedly with the blessings of politicians and high-ranking public officials, without obtaining the required permits.
