Sri Lanka, March 8 -- The Government will follow international laws for the repatriation of the sailors rescued from two Iranian naval ships last week, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath said.
Minister Herath was addressing the 'Raisina Dialogue' annual multilateral conference in New Delhi yesterday. A United States (US) submarine torpedo sank the Iranian frigate, IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean about 40 nautical miles off Galle on Wednesday, killing 84 sailors and leaving over 60 more missing.
The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) responded to a distress call from the ship and rescued 32 sailors from the location of the incident later that day.
