Sri Lanka, Aug. 30 -- Minister of Justice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara has pledged to clear the backlog of more than 16,000 enforced disappearance complaints by completing their initial investigations by the end of 2027.

The pledge comes as families of the disappeared prepare to mark the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances today, with events planned in both the North and the South.

The Minister visited the Northern Province last week, meeting families of the disappeared at their homes and hearing their concerns firsthand.
