SriLanka, Oct. 4 -- A fundraising drive was carried out in Nittambuwa and surrounding areas yesterday (3) to raise funds for the legal appeals of the 12 individuals sentenced to death over the killing of late SLPP MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala in May 2022.

The killing took place in Nittambuwa town during the nationwide violence that followed the State-provoked violence against peaceful protesters at Galle Face, and subsequent attacks targeting SLPP politicians.

The Nittambuwa People's Collective, comprising Aragalaya activists and human rights defenders, organised ticket sales to cover the administrative, documentation and logistical costs of the legal appeals.
