Sri Lanka, June 7 -- Former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS) Major General Suresh Sallay has begun a "fast unto death" yesterday (6), in protest that he is allegedly being subjected to torture, inhumane conditions, denied medical care and abuse of authority by the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID). In a complaint filed to the Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya by the suspect's wife, Manori Sallay, the IGP has been called upon to launch an independent criminal investigation into the allegations.

In her letter, Manori states that during the family visit yesterday, Sallay was in a deteriorated physical and mental condition, with sunken eyes and dry lips.
