Back on track after 309 days
SriLanka, Oct. 4 -- For 309 days, an unfamiliar, suffocating silence hung over the historic platform of the Peradeniya Railway Station. The brass bell remained mute, the signal arms stayed frozen against the misty hill country sky, and the iron rails. Normally polished to a mirror shine by the relentless grinding of daily express trains, the rails slowly succumbed to a dull, rusted sheen.
