Srilanka, April 5 -- The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) will mark its 55th April Heroes' Day today with three simultaneous rallies in Vavuniya, Badulla and Matara.

The main rally will be held in Vavuniya under the patronage of JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva.

The Badulla rally will be led by JVP politburo member and Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation K. D. Lalkantha, while the Matara rally will be addressed by JVP politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath.

The April commemoration is held in remembrance of fallen comrades in the JVP's first armed insurrection in 1971, which was violently suppressed by the United Front Government led by former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike.
