Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- The Government is accelerating a major expansion of battery energy storage, targeting around 1,200 megawatts of storage capacity over the next two years as part of its renewable energy strategy to increase solar power generation to reduce the country's dependence on costly fossil fuels, Ports, Civil Aviation and Energy Minister Anura Karunatilaka told the Sunday Observer yesterday He said so in response to a question about steps taken by the Government to integrate a 10 MW/40 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Anuradhapura.
