No. 1 Flying Training Wing (No 1 FTW) proudly known as the "Cradle of Military Aviators" commemorated its 75th Anniversary today (01 September 2026) at the Sri Lanka Air Force Academy China Bay marking seven and a half decades of distinguished service and excellence in military flying training.
The proud history of No. 1 FTW dates back to 01 September 1951, when No. 1 Flight of the Royal Ceylon Air Force was established at Royal Air Force Station Katunayake under the command of Flight Lieutenant Norman Lush of the Royal Air Force.
