Hanoi, April 30 -- Viet Nam and India established diplomatic relations on January 7, 1972 and elevated the bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2016.

In 2025, the two-way trade reached US$16.46 billion, an increase of 10.5 percent against 2024. The trade volume rose 28 percent year-on-year to US$4.8 billion in the first three months this year.

On investment, Indian investors had 503 projects in Viet Nam with total registered capital of US$1.117 billion as of March 2026, ranking 26th out of 154 countries and territories investing in the Southeast Asian nation.
