In Dhaka, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party led by Tarique Rahman secured a commanding parliamentary majority, winning 212 seats. In Naypyidaw, the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party achieved a landslide victory, consolidating the armed forces' hold over Myanmar's political system.
