The Amazon river dolphin, also known as the boto, is a well-known pink dolphin native to the Amazon and Orinoco river systems of South America. According to The Indian Express, the freshwater species can develop a distinctive pink hue as it matures.

Risso's dolphins, in contrast, become paler with age. While younger animals are typically dark grey or brown, older dolphins often have numerous scars from interactions with other dolphins and marine animals, giving them a lighter appearance.
