WASHINGTON, Aug. 12 -- The United States and Iran have agreed to extend a 60-day ceasefire under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the current period due to expire on Monday, August 17, Pakistani government sources told Anadolu Agency on Wednesday, August 12.

"Both sides have conveyed their consent to the mediators to extend the deadline," a source familiar with the mediation process said.

The two sides are continuing to exchange messages through mediators over the duration of the extension, the source added.

Neither Washington nor Tehran had publicly confirmed the reported agreement.
