New Islamic Year 1448: Muharram moon spotted in Saudi Arabia
Riyadh, June 15 -- The crescent moon, which marks the beginning of the holy month of Muharram 1448 AH-2026, has been sighted in Saudi Arabia on Monday evening, June 15.
As a result, Monday is the 29th and last day of Dhul-Hijjah 1447, and Tuesday, June 16, will be observed as the first day of Muharram and the beginning of the new Islamic year, 1448 AH.
The announcement was made by the Saudi Supreme Court after the crescent moon was sighted in various regions across the Kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
