Hyderabad, Oct. 23 -- Angry residents of the Nookapalli Double-Bedroom Housing Colony in Jagtial district took to the road and stopped municipal garbage vehicles, demanding the immediate removal of a nearby dumping yard whose smoke, they allege, is making them ill.

The residents said garbage at the yard is being burned indiscriminately, sending thick smoke and a foul stench into the colony. They said the fumes have made daily life difficult.

Three residents have already been hospitalised, locals claimed, alleging that their illness was caused by the smoke. Several others are reportedly visiting hospitals with health complaints.
