Hyderabad, Oct. 6 -- The Telangana High Court on Monday, October 5, issued notice to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner RV Karnan on a petition accusing him of contempt of court for ordering the closure of slaughterhouses and meat and beef shops in the city on Gandhi Jayanti.

Justice NV Shravan Kumar passed the order on a contempt petition filed by Vadla Srikanth, a law graduate from Tarnaka, who alleged that the GHMC chief had ignored the High Court's directions issued in February this year.

Srikanth had earlier approached the High Court against a GHMC letter dated August 4, 2025, which ordered the closure of cattle slaughterhouses and retail beef shops.
